n
this section we have searched out examples of home libraries of every
kind. They range from small nooks to several thousands of square feet.
Each category has numerous examples from individuals and professional
craftsmen from around the world . Each week we receive and review numerous
submissions and invite you to submit yours. ou
will find that many of the examples have detailed information about
the materials, labor, and costs involved. This information will be useful
in planning your home library especially when it comes to the budget.
Since the bookcases tend to be one of the biggest expenses you can gradually
add them as your budget permits. Many of us have invested years of our
time and money to get the “perfect” library.
ou can actually
turn a spare bedroom into an excellent library for less then $700.00
if you do it yourself with surfaced 4”x8” blocks, 1”x10”
shelves, stain, screws, wood filler, and trim. If you are in California
you will want to add earthquake brackets that attach several shelves
to studs in each wall. My wife and I learned about that during the 1989
Loma Prieta earthquake.
